Archdiocese of Washington Catholic High School Veteran and Novice Teacher Award Winners

Congratulations to our 2020-2021 Archdiocese of Washington Catholic High School Veteran and Novice Teacher award winners Louisa Puffett (Veteran) and Alexis Donoghue (Novice)!
 
Each of the Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Washington are invited to participate in the 2020-2021 Catholic High School Veteran and Novice Teacher Awards. These awards were established to recognize the devotion of veteran and novice Catholic secondary school teachers in the Archdiocese of Washington. They speak to the value placed on faithful service, excellence, best practices, and innovations in Catholic secondary school teaching.  
 
Veteran Teacher: Louisa Puffett, Math Department
 
The 2020-2021 Catholic High School Veteran Teacher Award recognizes a veteran teacher from each Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Washington who embraces teaching as a ministry, proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and demonstrates respect for the Catholic identity and the charism of his/her school. This awardee must have completed four years of full time service at our high school. 
 
Awardees possess the following characteristics: 
  • Models a leadership style of respect to all members of the school community;
  • Manifests a desire for academic excellence through continuous personal and professional growth;
  • Assumes responsibility for development of the whole student;
  • Engages in teaching within and outside the classroom that fosters the God-given talents and gifts of every student; and
  • Seeks to transform students by responding to the Gospel call for peace and justice. 
Novice Teacher: Alexis Donoghue, Science Department
 
The 2020-2021 Catholic High School Novice Teacher Award recognizes a new teacher from each Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Washington who embraces teaching as a ministry, proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and demonstrates respect for the Catholic identity and the charism of his/her school. This awardee must have completed their first, second or third year of full time teaching at our high school.
 
Awardees possess the following characteristics:
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the spiritual growth of the school community;
  • Manifests a desire for academic excellence and commitment to professional standards;
  • Demonstrates pedagogical awareness that includes both generic and content-specific techniques;
  • Recognizes the necessity for development of the whole student; and
  • Cares deeply about the well-being of students, earning the respect of both students and teachers, alike.
