We are pleased to announce the hiring of new faculty members who will join our community at Elizabeth Seton High School this year.
Eamon O’Connor and Tahseen Rahseed join the Social Studies faculty. Mr. O’Connor received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Connecticut. He attended the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, United Kingdom, as part of his Master’s program also from the University of Connecticut, which is anticipated as a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Social Studies. He will teach US History. Ms. Rahseed received her Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Master of Arts in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College, Annapolis, MD. She comes to us most recently from the Maryland General Assembly where she was a Chief Legislative Aide. She will teach Government and Intro to Psychology.
We also welcome Dr. Anna Trofka-Klee to the Science Department. Dr. Trofka-Klee received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, with a minor in Chemistry and Microbiology, from Colorado State University. From there, she completed a PhD in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from Yale University. She comes to us most recently from the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore, where she taught four levels of chemistry (including AP chemistry), two levels of biology, and anatomy and physiology. At Seton, she will teach all levels of Chemistry.
Melanie Ness and Laurel Blair will join the Math Department. Mrs. Ness comes to us most recently from Holy Redeemer, College Park. She received her Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Maryland and, in addition to having her Maryland State Educator Certification through Notre Dame of Maryland University, she is also certified in Early Childhood Development and Curriculum and completed the Elementary School Summer Institute for Mathematics Teaching. She will teach Algebra II and Financial Management. Mrs. Blair received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Mount St. Mary's University and her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in Mathematics (K-14) from Concordia University. She is certified in Elementary and Special Education and will teach Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Algebra II Concepts.
Joshua Sommerville will take over as the new Choral Music Program Director. Mr. Somerville has an extensive professional history as a musical director, conductor, choir director and teacher, vocal coach, and accompanist, and was the Musical Director for Seton’s debut of Once on This Island in the newly renovated Mahler Center for the Performing Arts. Mr. Sommerville received his Bachelor of Science in Music from Towson University and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Performing Arts and Leadership Management from Shenandoah University.
Erin Jarboe ‘08 joins the Health and Physical Education Department as the new Health teacher. Mrs. Jarboe earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, Sports Administration and Coaching from Washington Adventist University. She is certified in Physical Education and Health Education, K-12. She will be a familiar face as she has also been a part of our Softball coaching staff and Summer Camp program.
We are excited to welcome Domencia Casertano, who will teach American Sign Language, a new course offering in our Language Department this year. Ms. Casertano is a graduate of Gallaudet University with a degree in Deaf Studies and a minor in Linguistics and a Master of Arts in Sign Language Education (MASLED).
Erika Nizborski will be our new Digital Photography teacher. Ms. Nizborski received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photo Journalism from The Corcoran College of Art and Design and her AFA in Photography from Delaware College of Art and Design. In addition to owning her own business as a freelance photographer, her teaching experience also includes being the former Digital Photography Instructor at WILL KIPP Public Charter School.
Three new faces on campus also include Director of College Counseling Mrs. Maritza Velasquez-Paolucci, Art teacher Ms. Keva, who has been teaching art, art history, and writing art curriculum for all ages for over ten years, and Field Hockey coach Ms. Morgan Feehery.
These talented and enthusiastic educators are excited to become a part of our community and work with our students. We are delighted to welcome them to Elizabeth Seton High School!
