Admissions
Incoming Freshmen
Elizabeth Seton High School admits approximately 150 students to its freshman class each year. The deadline for submitting admissions materials for the entry into ninth grade is December 7th, 2009. Each eighth grade applicant should provide the following in order to be considered for admission:
Eighth grade students presently attending Catholic elementary schools must:
- Submit Seton's application and application fee of $50 by December 7th, 2009
- List Seton as one of their two choices at their Catholic middle school
- Take the HSPT given at their school in November and select Seton as one of their high school choices on the test day
Eighth grade students not attending Catholic elementary school must:
- Submit Seton's application and application fee of $50 by December 7th, 2009
- Submit two teacher recommendations
- Forward an academic transcript from their present school
- Register for the Archdiocesan Entrance Exam (HSPT) given in December and select Seton as one of their high school choices on the test day
Transfer Students
Elizabeth Seton admits a limited number of sophomore and junior students each year, depending on space. In order to be considered for transfer admission, a student must:
- Submit Seton's application and application fee of $50 by April 12th, 2010
- Submit two teacher recommendations
- Forward an academic transcript, including the most recent academic semester
Please note: Transfer applicants are also strongly encouraged to take the HSPT in December or January.
Admissions Decisions
Admissions decisions are based on a combination of factors and vary from year to year depending on the number of applicants and their academic profiles. Decisions are made by the Admissions Committee, which is comprised of a mixture of Seton's administrators, admissions officers, and guidance counselors. In general, a student's grades, standardized test results, attendance record, teacher recommendations, and essay responses are carefully considered. Students who are strong in all of these areas will also be invited for a personal interview. When evaluating transfer applicants, the Admissions Committee must also review the curricular sequencing of the student's current high school and whether the classes already taken are compatible with Seton's curriculum and graduation requirements.
