Elizabeth Seton High School is proud to announce that Alexis Williams, class of 2018, has received the Ms. Inspiration Award from the Women in Technology (WIT) organization. The award recognizes high school students for their young pursuit of, and interest in, Cyber Security. The award was presented at the WIT Annual Leadership Awards Banquet this month. WIT is a not-for-profit organization with the mission of advancing women in technology – from the classroom to the boardroom. – by providing advocacy, leadership development, networking, mentoring and technology education.
Alexis is the Founder and President of Seton's Science Club, Captain of the Cyber Patriots Club, and Vice President of the Girls Who Code Club. According to Lisa Hardy, Girls Who Code moderator, "Alexis is a true leader and never shies away from responsibility. She works hard to find solutions to existing problems and is curious about the technology around her. She's self-motivated to investigate and learn new programming languages. Alexis is always willing to help her classmates. She is a pleasure to teach and will do great things."
As a student, Alexis is described by her teachers as being smart, tenacious, and focused. "I have never seen a student so interested in trying new things and learning, even on her time," said Mrs. JoEllen Gray, engineering teacher and Girls Who Code moderator. "She is always building something." '
Alexis is very excited to receive this award. She hopes to study engineering design and coding in college, majoring in aerospace engineering, perhaps at M.I.T., with an emphasis in space propulsion.
